Millions of dots and billions of years of evolution. This is the third version of “stoned ape” hypothesis that I’ve drawn.
I love to highlight the role that psychedelics, like psilocybin, may have played in shaping human evolution and consciousness. The sharp contrasts, edges and geometric patterns not only represent an altered state of consciousness but also the enhancement of visual acuity, a key aspect of the stoned ape hypothesis. According to this theory, psilocybin may have enhanced early humans’ visual perception, aiding in activities like foraging and hunting by increasing sensitivity to movement and contrast. This heightened acuity could have offered a selective advantage, helping early hominins detect threats or locate resources more effectively. I’ve also drawn other life forms in various stages of consciousness and self-awareness, representing the myriad of forms that branched off or contributed to our evolutionary journey. I really tried to portray a sense of interconnectedness and a branching story of evolution. I’m fascinated with ideas of evolution, consciousness, and altered states of awareness and how they may have influenced the unique path that led to modern humans.
